So, you just got your Xbox, made a few purchases, subscribed to a service here and there, and would like to ‘share’ those purchases or subscriptions with those in your household? Well, this is how you do this. In this post, I’ll go through what setting up your Home Xbox entails, the restrictions, and how to do it!
The Restrictions
There are two restrictions
1: You may only have one Home Xbox. All others will be secondary
2: You may ONLY switch this Home Xbox 5 times in a 1-year period
The Benefits
So, there are actually a few benefits to having a Home Xbox, at least with the current generation (Series X|S).
1: All of your purchases are accessible from this Xbox to any account using it. This is a huge bonus, especially if you have 3 or 4 people in the house. Set them up with their own XBL account (doesn’t have to be gold), and they can access the purchases you make. Keep in mind that they will only be able to access age-appropriate purchases
2: Your Game Pass and XBL Gold subscriptions will be shared with everyone on the Xbox
3: You will be able to play content offline.
How to do it
There are a few steps on doing this, but here they are
1: Open the guide by pressing the Xbox button on your controller
2: Scroll over to your user picture then down to settings (this has changed since the XB1 release)
3: In ‘General’, scroll over to Customization
4: Scroll down to ‘My Home Xbox’
5: Make sure that this is checked, and save settings
Keep in mind that in order to do this, you MUST be able to contact Xbox servers, so if service is down, you cannot do this. Additionally, you need to reauthorize your Xbox every 30 days, and this will remove any licenses from your old Home Xbox (you can still play the games there, it just needs to be online, with you logged in).
